Dental Sealants
Highly effective in preventing decay on the biting surfaces of your chewing teeth, dental sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-coloured acrylic “coating” is painted onto the surface of the tooth.
This effectively seals the deep grooves, acting as a barrier and protecting enamel from plaque and acids.
Sealants protect the depressions and grooves of your teeth from food particles and plaque that brushing and flossing can’t reach.
sealants take only a few minutes to seal each tooth. Sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years before a reapplication is needed.
Children and adults can benefit from sealants in the fight against tooth decay.
When decay involves pulp, we need to perform pulpotomy-which is similar to adult tooth root canal treatment except the materials used fill the root canal space.
Paediatric crowns are similar to adult crowns, only the difference will be they need to serve only few years before tooth falls off
Commonly we use stainless stell pre-fabricated crowns (readymade crowns).
Based on tooth size we select the size and slightly modify tooth structure and fix on them.
Metal crowns are unesthetic, now we do full ceramic crowns also to milk tooth
Once milk tooth is removed due to extensive decay or by damage, we need to preserve tooth space to allow permanent tooth to erupt in same place
if you do not preserve space adjacent tooth moves in to the space and there will be less space for permanent tooth, come out, so permanent tooth erupts in wrong position
space maintainer is an appliance fixed on to the next tooth with loop engaging other side tooth, will help in maintaining space.
